So I decided to write and update a little more since Zach hasn't given to many details. The labor and delivery went well. I went in on Thursday (the 11th) at 7:30 in the morning and they broke my water, then at like 9, started me on pitocin. I was dialated to a 3 and 95% efaced when I went in, and earlier that week, that is why my doctor let me get started. I started pushing around 3:45 and had her at 6:15 that evening. She weighed 7lbs. 8 oz. and was 18 inches long. She looks just like Zach, has his hair line, nose, eyebrows, pretty much she is all him, or his side of the family. I still haven't found anything that looks like me on her. I am very grateful she didn't get my ears, I was very scared for that. The doctor had to use the vaccuum because her head wouldn't come out, you can see the mark on top of her head in one of the pictures. The doctor had Zach pull her out, once he got the head out and I wish everyone could have seen Zach's face when the doctor told him to put his hands down there. Zach told him no a couple of times, and the doctor wouldn't let him say no, so Zach pulled her out and put her on top of me. The best part of it all is that Zach had pretty much watched nothing up to this point. He would turn and look the other way when they were giving me the IV's and the epidural and all of the that. Then the doctor (whom I loved) made him cut the cord and he told him no to that too, but the doctor shoved the scissors in Zach's hand, so he did that as well. Speaking of the epidural, I don't know why in the world people don't get them, WHAT THE FREAK ARE THEY THINKING. I waited to get mine until I couldn't stand the contractions and by the time I got it, I was about to die. Any ways, I am doing pretty good, I hate all the emotions that are coming along with this, they are a 100 times worse now than when I was pregnant, and I hate that I can't control myself, but other than that, I am doing pretty well. Oh yeah, and nursing is not fun, but oh well I guess. Saylor is doing great. She is a good baby, but spits up a lot, I am hoping the doctor will give us something for it when we go in this week. She sleeps most of the time, but we have to keep her propped up at all times because she is always spitting up all over everything. Zach is doing very well with her. She has him wrapped around her finger already. He is so cute with her and I love watching him take care of her, he is a great dad already (saying that is really weird, we aren't used to the idea yet that we are parents, but it is true, he is a good dad). Hopefully we'll get some more pictures posted in the next few days.

  1. Oh Carrie...the emotions will get better. Just sleep when she does so you are well rested...it makes all the difference. I'm so glad your a mommy...we will have lots to talk about, I'm sure! Tell the proud daddy we said hello! Can't wait to see you guys in November! Oh, I hated nursing...it was really hard and I felt like giving up tone of times, but hang in there, it gets better and easier and you'll soon love how convinient it is, not to mention easier on your wallet!

  3. haha, funny story! Anyhow I take back what I just said. I read it completely wrong. I thought you were talking about the profession nursing and you were talking about breast feeding! Haha jokes on me! Yeah that isn't the most fun thing, but it does get better I promise that. Take care Jean- Kim

  5. Congrats again! Oct. 11th is Harrison's bday. :D
I'm so glad everything went well. Those Shoemaker genes are very strong because none of my kids look like me, either. They all look like Andy's side of the family. Nursing will get better. It just takes a little time to get used to it: Saylor is learning just like you. I would try calling your lactation consultant. They are usually pretty helpful. Also, if she is spitting up alot, it might be something that you are eating: broccoli, chocolate, and dairy can sometimes cause upset tummies.
    Hang in there!

  6. You know, pregnancy and delivery stories are like hunting and fishing stories. You never get tired of sharing your experience with anyone who will listen. Zach, you understand, right? I was glad to hear that Zach got involved. We were all wondering how that would go. GREAT JOB!!!
