Saturday Project (Garden)

I really wanted to do a garden this year (and last, but we were gone too much.) Yesterday we finally had a day it wasn't raining, so we decided to tackle the garden project. We started out with our yard looking like this.
Then we went to this. Zach really did all of the work. He dug all of this out with a shovel, (we only have one) while I was out running around getting plants and seeds. Saylor, she was loving life playing in the dirt and mud.

Then came this. The ground was way to hard, and we have nothing to till it up with so we had to get lots and lots of top soil and garden soil (this was not the cheapest project, that is for sure, so we will see if this garden will be worth all the money we put into to it.)

The end result. It looks really good, now we will see if it produces anything. Hopefully it will :) So Zach hardly ever eats fruits or vegetables and HATES tomatoes, and when we got done planting, he says to me, "I can't believe you didn't get more tomato plants." I was very confused, but then he said for fresh salsa, so now I will be putting in a few more tomato plants and cilantro so we can have fresh salsa. This took us (mostly Zach) almost 7 long hours and about 4 trips to Lowes, but its done :) We can't wait for some fresh vegetables.

  2. it looks really good. Impressed with the loong hours to get it done. Gardens are expensive but it is neat to just walk out and pick enough veggies to eat for dinner. I love it!
(I had to rebuy all my veggies, they froze. oops

  3. Keri--Great job! It may not be worth the money this year, but next year you might break even at least, since you won't have to buy all the soil, boards, etc., again. We put in ours last year and it was a bit expensive, but this year with just buying little 4-packs of plants, and a few bags of soil to top off with, it only cost about $20. Awesome! I'm loving our garden. Fresh veggies are the best! Linnae

  4. Very cool! It looks great! I'm so jealous, I want a garden so bad. The only place I have room for one is on the side of my house, but it's shaded the majority of the day. So I don't think anything would grow. dang it.
